The QND A21 WS2811 RGB Addressable LED Strip brings dynamic, programmable lighting to any project. Unlike standard RGB strips that show one color at a time, this strip allows you to control small groups of LEDs (3 LEDs per pixel) independently, enabling stunning chasing effects, rainbow waves, and custom animations limited only by your imagination.
Operating at 12V DC, this strip maintains consistent brightness over longer runs compared to 5V strips, with less voltage drop . Each WS2811 IC controls a group of 3 SMD 5050 LEDs, creating one addressable pixel . This balances high visual density with simplified control, making it ideal for medium to large installations like room outlines, stair lighting, and signage.
Key Features:
-
WS2811 IC (External Driver): Robust 12V chip that controls 3 LEDs per pixel. Chain up to 1000+ pixels with proper power injection .
-
High LED Density: 60 SMD 5050 LEDs per meter – smooth, seamless animations without visible gaps.
-
Addressable Resolution: 20 pixels per meter (20 ICs/m). Each pixel = 3 LEDs acting as one controllable unit .
-
12V DC Operation: Lower voltage drop over distance. Run up to 10–15 meters before needing power injection (vs. 5 meters for 5V strips) .
-
SMD 5050 RGB LEDs: Large 5.0mm × 5.0mm chips deliver high brightness and excellent color mixing. 16 million color combinations with 256 brightness levels per color channel.
-
Cuttable & Connectable: Cut line marked every 3 LEDs (every pixel). Solder pads at each cut point for easy reconnection or wire attachment .
-
3M Adhesive Backing: Pre-applied double-sided tape for quick, secure mounting on clean, dry surfaces. (IP67 waterproof versions may require clips instead) .
-
Wide Compatibility: Works with popular controllers: SP107E (music), SP108E (WiFi/app), K-1000C, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and WLED on ESP8266/ESP32 .
-
Flexible PCB: 10mm wide white or black PCB (depending on version). Bends around corners but avoid sharp creases.
-
Energy Efficient: Approximately 14.4W per meter at full brightness (mixed white) .
-
Certifications: CE, RoHS compliant.

How WS2811 Works (Important):
Unlike WS2812B strips where each LED is individually addressable, WS2811 strips use one external IC to control three LEDs as a single pixel . This means:
-
LEDs 1-3 act as one unit (same color at the same time)
-
LEDs 4-6 act as the next unit
-
You cannot control each of the 60 LEDs individually – you control 20 groups of 3 LEDs
For most applications (room outlines, TV backlights, signage), this is perfectly adequate and allows for longer runs with simpler power management .
WS2811 vs WS2812B Comparison:
| Feature | WS2811 (This Strip) | WS2812B |
|---|---|---|
| Voltage | 12V | 5V |
| Control | 1 IC controls 3 LEDs | 1 IC per LED (individual) |
| Voltage Drop | Low (good for long runs) | High (injection needed every 5m) |
| Max Run Length | 10-15m without injection | 5m without injection |
| Power Consumption | 14W/m | 18W/m |
| Pixel Density | 20 pixels/m (for 60 LEDs) | 60 pixels/m |
| Best For | Long runs, outlines, signage | Close-up viewing, matrix displays |
Installation Tips:
-
Clean surface – Wipe mounting area with isopropyl alcohol before applying adhesive.
-
Power injection – For runs longer than 10m, inject power at both ends or every 5-10m to maintain brightness .
-
Controller placement – Keep controller within 1-2 meters of strip to prevent data signal degradation.
-
Soldering – For best results, solder wires directly to cut points. Use JST connectors for quick modular setups.
-
Fuse protection – Use a fused power supply or inline fuse (5A-10A) for safety.
Safety Notes:
-
Do not exceed 12V input – higher voltage will destroy LEDs.
-
Ensure power supply is rated for at least 20% more than total strip wattage.
-
Avoid bending more than 90° – sharp creases can break PCB traces.
-
Waterproof versions (IP65/IP67) are safe for damp locations but not submersion.
-
Always disconnect power before cutting or soldering.
